The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of WB-EMS and combined training on lipid profile and body composition in overweight women.Forty-five overweight (BMI: ۲۷.۷۳ ۱.۵۹ kg/m۲) women (ages: ۳۲.۸۹ ۴.۵۹ years) voluntarily participated in this study. Subjects were randomly assigned into three groups: The WB-EMS group that carried out an intermittent stimulation of WB-EMS (۲ sessions/week, ۲۰ min/sessions) according to the schedule of the first session each week (۸۵ Hz, ۳۵۰ μs, ۴ s pulse, ۴ s rest) and second session (۷-۱۵ Hz, ۳۵۰ μs, continuous pulse), the Combined Training group consisted of aerobic and bodyweight resistance training (۲ sessions/week, ۲۰ min/session), and Control Group. In all three groups, the lipid profile and body composition were assessed before and after ۸ weeks of exercise.Within-group comparison showed that in the WB-EMS group there were significant differences in triglyceride, cholesterol, High-Density-Lipoprotein, Low-Density-Lipoprotein, body weight, BMI, WHR, WC, body fat percentage, BFM and LBM values (P ≤ ۰.۰۵), and there was no significant difference only in fasting blood sugar. Also, in the CT group, the significant difference was only observed in BMI (P≤ ۰.۰۵). In the between group comparison in post test there were significant differences only in HDL and BF% (P ≤ ۰.۰۵).Since exercise by WB-EMS has positive effects on lipid profile and body composition, it can be concluded that exercise by WB-EMS may be a proper method for people who have a limited time for exercise or are unable or unmotivated to conventional exercises.
