Effect of two-weeks coenzyme Q10 supplementation on the exercise-induced response of oxidative, and inflammatory in male wrestlers abstract
Heavy exercise training cause muscle damage associated with very-high productionof free radicals. Present study was conducted to identify the effect of short-term Q10 supplementation on exercise-induced response of oxidative, and inflammatory in peripheral blood of male wrestlers.20 healthy male wrestlers in a randomized and double-blind design were divided into two equal Q10 supplement and placebo groups. Each participant received 5 mg.kg-1.day-1 coenzyme Q10, or dextrose for fourteen consecutive days. Before and after supplementation period, all subjects participated in a wrestling training session. Blood samples were obtained in the 2 phases: one hour before and 24 hours after two wrestling protocols. The plasma total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and malonaialdehyde (MDA) as oxidative stress indices were determined by FRAP and thiobarbituric acid reactive substance (TBARS) methods, respectively. The plasma C-reactive protein (CRP) and peripheral blood leukocyte counts as inflammatory markers were determined by immunoturbidometric assay and automatic analyzer, respectively. Data were expressed as means ± SD and analyzed by repeated measure ANOVA, Bonferroni and independent samples t tests at P<0.05.The results of this study showed that both Coenzyme Q10 supplementation reduced the increase in Malondialdehyde Exercise response to the control group as well as total antioxidant capacity in Coenzyme Q10 supplementation groups. However, C-reactive protein index and peripheral blood leukocyte count did not differ between these three groups.Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that Coenzyme Q10 may be an appropriate method to reduce oxidative stress and enhance antioxidant defense.
