Abstract:

Background and Objective : education and evaluation of patient safety culture is one of the important issues of WHO and is one of the important concerns of health system planners and policy makers. Despite the many descriptive and analytical researches that have been done, the real importance and place of safety education in the health system has been less discussed.Materials and Methods : This study reviews the real place of safety education in improving the health and patient safety indicators in the health system and from a total of ۵۹ articles collected from Google Scholar, Pub Med, SID, MagIran, Iran Medex, Scopus Web of science databases, a total of ۱۷ articles have been selected in Persian and English languages that have no time limit and have been selected for the purpose of study and relevant information has been extracted from them. Results : The results of a review of ۱۷ selected articles showed that in most studies conducted in medical centers, staff perceptions of patient safety were low and most nurses reported that their unit had a safety problem; also, the total scores of safety culture have been reported as average and low. The results of research conducted in this field show that ۳ to ۱۷ percent of patients are exposed to medical errors during their treatment period, which can be reduced by providing continuous safety trainings. Conclusion : According to the studies, the situation of providing patient safety education and the general level of patient safety culture in the current health system of Iran is not favorable. In addition to educating the staff of the organization about patient safety and medical errors, it is necessary to establish efficient safety committees in medical centers; Also, the principles of safety and how to identify the types of medical errors and unfortunate events in all academic levels should be taught to nurses, physicians, paramedics in the form of practical theoretical and practical topics and should be included in long-term and accurate planning of health policy makers.
