Abstract:

Parkinson’s disease is a common cause of degenerative disorders related tocentral nervous system (CNS). The main characteristic of PD is formationLewy bodies in the cytoplasm of dopaminergic neural cells of substantianigra pars compacta (SNc). This ultimately causes serious motor and nonmotorsymptoms. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are including a wideclass of ncRNAs with more than ۲۰۰ nucleotides in length and playsignificant roles in various important molecular processes including the cellcycle, apoptosis, genomic imprinting, cell differentiation and geneexpression. LncRNAs are highly expressed in CNS cells; while the studieshave shown that neurodegenerative disorders will cause the expressionprofiles of lncRNAs to deviate from the normal state. Furthermore, thelevels of lncRNAs in the brain of affected patients change over time that isassociated with PD progression. Several studies are conducted in order toexamine the potential use of biomarkers to diagnosis and treat this braindisorder. The aim of this study is to review the advances in the relatedliterature on lncRNAs as promising biomarkers for prognosis, diagnosis, and treatment of the PD.
