Abstract:

in this paper we address the problem of estimating the instantaneous frequency IF of a time varying mono-component signal in the presence of complex multiplicative and additive noise processes we show that the methods based on estimating the peak of time -frequency distribution TFD fail to estimate the IF when the maximum of the power spectral density PSD of the multiplicative noise is not at zero frequency instead , we show that the first -order moment of a TFD can be used as an IF estimator for such scenarios when the signal -to-additive noise ratio SANR is above a given threshold.
