The effect of fenugreek seed powder on the elimination of Acetaminophen-induced renal toxicity in adult male rats

Acetaminophen has been considered as an analgesic, but its overuse can cause renal toxicity. Many traditional treatments are recommended as the complementary and alternative options for treating various diseases. In this experimental study, male Wistar rats (n=۲۴, weight ۲۵۰-۲۸۰ g) were divided into four groups: Control (C), Fenugreek seed powder (F); Acetaminophen (A); and Acetaminophen+Fenugreek seed powder (A+F). Serum creatinine and urea levels increased in the acetaminophen group. In the acetaminophen group treated with fenugreek seed, serum creatinine and urea levels decreased. Our results show that treatment with fenugreek seed powder prevents acute renal toxicity caused by acetaminophen.
