خلاصه مقاله:
Background and Aim : Acute gastroenteritis is one of the common causes of morbidity andmortality around the world. It has been estimated that more than ۷۰۰ million cases of acutegastroenteritis (AGE) occur in children below ۵ years old per year. Enteric viruses have beenidentified as the most important etiological agent of AGE. Beside common and well-known entericviruses such as rotaviruses, noroviruses, adenoviruses, and astroviruses, there are other viral agentswhich are associated with AGE. Latest molecular techniques allow us to discover novel virusesfrom AGE patients such as enterovirus. The aim of this study was to determine the frequency ofenterovirus infection in Iranian children suffering from AGEMethods : Stool samples were collected from ۱۰۰ children with diarrheal symptoms. viral RNAwas extracted from ۱۰% stool suspensions and after the reverse transcription process, a PCR assaywas done to detect the enterovirus genome. Then, positive samples were sequenced to confirm theresults. Results : The study population comprised ۶۰ males and ۴۰ females. The mean age of the studiedpatients was ۱۰.۱۲+۸.۱۹ years. Among the ۱۰۰ analyzed stool samples from children with acutegastroenteritis, ۲ positive samples (۲%) were recognized, and sequencing results were confirmedby BLAST online tool. Conclusion : The importance of viruses in children’s gastroenteritis has been underestimated inmany reports worldwide. this study describes the detection of enterovirus associated with acutediarrhea in children. according to the results, the number of the patients who have the enterovirusis about ۲%. However, this number is less than other enteric viruses but the critical role of thisvirus must be considered in viral diagnosis to help to improve patient treatment.
