Effective Factors on Women’s Social Exclusion After Divorce From the Viewpoint of Tehran Residents

Abstract:

Background: Divorce is the most important factor in family disintegration. This study aimed to assess theperspectives of Tehran residents aged over ۲۰ years on women’s social exclusion after divorce and itsrelated factors.Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out on the population over ۲۰ years old inTehran in September ۲۰۱۹. Due to the coronavirus disease ۲۰۱۹ epidemic conditions, the Social ExclusionQuestionnaire for Iranian Divorced Women was provided to the subjects online. Convenience samplingwas applied until ۴۰۰ questionnaires were completely received. Independent t test, one-way analysisof variance, multiple linear regressions, and Pearson correlation coefficient were used to investigate therelationship between social exclusion and demographic variables via SPSS (version ۱۶) at the significancelevel of ۰.۰۵.Results: The mean ± standard deviation of the age of participants was ۳۷.۸۲ ± ۹.۱ years. There was asignificant relationship between social exclusion and employment status (P < ۰.۰۰۱), education level(P < ۰.۰۰۱), economic status (P < ۰.۰۰۱), and marital status (P < ۰.۰۰۱). Further, there was a significantcorrelation between social exclusion and age (P < ۰.۰۰۱). The total average of economic dependence anddiscrimination based on marital status, terrifying, depriving, and damaging marital status were ۴.۱۹ ± ۰.۷۰,۴.۰ ± ۰۲.۷۵, ۳.۸۰ ± ۱.۰۶, ۳.۷۵ ± ۰.۸۵, and ۳.۶۷ ± ۰.۹۴, respectively.Conclusion: The economic dependence based on marital status had the highest impact on the socialexclusion of divorced women based on the opinion of Tehran residents aged over ۲۰.
