Abstract:
This study focuses on the development of a stochastic hub location-routing model for rapid transit network design problem. Due to the use of rapid transit systems, the developed hub and spoke model consists of stopovers (stations) in the hub and spoke alignments. The decisions to make concern the location of the hub and spoke nodes, the selection of the hub and spoke edges, the determination of the hub and spoke lines, and the routing of flows through the lines. Uncertainty is assumed for the demands, represented by a finite set of scenarios, and the goal is to maximize the total expected profit. The performance of the proposed model is evaluated through computational tests using the well-known AP dataset. Some managerial insight is also provided through the analysis of the resulting networks under various parameter settings.
