This paper addresses the problem of robust low-ordercontroller design for wind turbines with guaranteed performancebounds. A parametric transfer function of a wind turbine isdeveloped. Then, a controller is designed using a novel frequencydomain approach from robust parametric methods andestablished results such as the Edge Theorem. The method allowsthe user to derive the controller parameter gain space which is ofspecial interest in industrial applications. This approach is alsovaluable for the design of gain scheduled control systems as it canbe used to specify key system variables such as the systemoperating points at which switching the controller is necessary andcontroller gains at those operating points. The usefulness of theresults is illustrated and verified by application to the NREL ۵-MW wind turbine model.
