Auditing of Patient Safety Standards in Psychiatric Wards of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences

Introduction: One of the most important issues in the health sector, especially in health care centers, is quality of care. The quality of care consists of elements that make patient safety as one of the most important. Patient safety means avoiding any injury or injury to the patient during the provision of health care. Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the observance of patient safety standards in psychiatric wards in Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences hospitals in ۲۰۱۶.Methods: This is a descriptive study that were taken in ۲۰۱۶. The statistical population of this study was the patients admitted to the psychiatric wards of Imam Hossein (AS) and Taleghani hospitals in ۲۰۱۶. Using "Observance of safety standards in psychiatric wards, "checklist, the observance of safety standards in various work shifts was performed and the checklist included ۵۱ items (۲۰ items for electro convulsive therapy, ۱۳ items for medication, ۱۲ for physical restraint and ۶ items for aggression) for each unit under study and data was coded by scoring responses. One hundred observation were done for each procedure were done by sampling event. All analyzes were performed using SPSS ۲۲ software. Results: Findings showed that electro convulsive therapy, medication, physical restraint and aggression respectively ۵۹%, ۶۵%, ۵۹% and ۷۷% items were answered in the medium range of safety standards. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the status quo is somewhat distant from the standards that it is suggested to be increase to the number of nurses and health workers in the shifts of different sectors in order to improve the observance of safety standards as well as the importance of observing safety standards with the use of special attention to the educational package in the psychiatric ward.
