Abstract:

Grain size distribution is an important microparameter of rock whichhas a significant effect on its characteristics. Determining therepresentative size distribution of rock grains is practically difficult.Previous attempts in the literature to measure this parameter haveseveral disadvantages. In this study, an accurate and yet simplemethod is developed in which, grains size distribution of a rock isevaluated directly from the thin sections. The proposed method isexperimented successfully for three crystalline marbles, i.e. Neiriz,Baghat and Maron. Results reveal that Maron marble has particleradius ranged between ۰.۱۱-۲.۵۲ mm while Baghat and Neirizmarbles’ distribution is ۰.۴۹-۵.۰۷ mm and ۰.۱۵-۱.۸۹ mm, respectively.T-Test analysis shows that difference between the marbles grain sizedistributions is significant. Additionally, one-way ANalysis OfVAriance (ANOVA) proves that the three marbles are anisotropic ingrain scale.
