Abstract:
Nowadays nanotechnology is one the most important research priorities in the world. Many researches have been seriously pursued on nanotechnology since the beginning of the twentieth century and its incredible effects on different industrial processes have attracted the attention of all countries. Nanotechnology is a novel food packaging method that increase the foods shelf life along with food safety, reduce food spoilage and improve people health. Food packages including nanoparticles would ensure consumers about the safety of food products. One of the recent topics in this field is the use of silver nanoparticles in food packaging, which is so unique due to the high antimicrobial power. Using nano-packaging in food industries can be discussed in three major aspects; making a clean environment in production process, producing disinfectant films and containers and also increasing the shelf life for ۲ to ۳ times. In this article, the applications of nanotechnology in food industry, the role of silver nanoparticles and their disinfection mechanism are described in nano-packaging.
