Abstract:

Considering the fact that the family, by knowing the parenting patterns, helps children's academic progress and creativity. Based on this, the purpose of choosing the topic and conducting research on the role of parenting methods with the educational progress and creativity of students is to achieve results that probably indicate the connection of some factors between them. The type of parenting attitude of parents was considered as an independent variable, and the level of creativity and academic progress was considered as a dependent variable. Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the relationship between creativity and parenting styles. Method: This research was a descriptive and correlational study. The population comprised male and female junior high school students of first, second and third grades in educational zones ۲, ۳ and ۵ of Tehran, Iran. The sample consisted of ۴۰۰ students randomly selected. All subjects completed Abedi Creativity Questionnaire and Baumrind Parenting Styles Inventory (PSI). Results: The results indicated a significant positive relationship between authoritative parenting style and creativity, while there was a significant negative relationship between authoritarian parenting style and creativity. No significant relationship was found between permissive style of parenting and creativity. Conclusion: Authoritative parenting style can help increase the creativity of children.
