Effectiveness of the nanomedicine approach on reducing the adverse effects of Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN): A systematic review and meta-analysis

Introduction: Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is one of the most common neuropathies caused by antineoplastic agents. Clinically, CIPN is a sensory neuropathy that may be accompanied by motor and autonomic changes of varying severity and duration. One of the very important goals that nanotechnology pursues is the creation and production of nanoparticles that have the desired distribution of drugs in the body. Therefore, the present study, with the approach of systematic review and meta-analysis, investigates the effectiveness of the nanomedicine approach on reducing the adverse effects of peripheral neuropathy. Materials and methods: In this study, a meta-analysis search was conducted in Scopus, Web of science, Pubmed and Google Scholar search engines. In the search of keywords such as nanoparticles, Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, adverse effect along with their Mesh terms, were done without time limit. The search was done according to the PRISMA protocol. ARRIVE checklist was used to check the quality of compliance. Results: After searching, ۲۰۷ articles were found. Out of the ۲۰۷ articles found, ۴۶ articles were removed due to duplication, out of the remaining ۱۶۱ articles, ۱۴۸ articles were removed due to irrelevance and ۷ articles were removed due to lack of access to the full text of the article, so finally ۶ studies were included in the meta-analysis process. Conclusion: Treatment with drug delivery systems based on nanotechnology causes targeted drug delivery and controlled drug release. Also, the adverse effects of peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy drugs can be reduced by using nanosystems
