Abstract:
Tissue engineering research has made significant progress during the past few decades. Furthermore,
improvements in novel materials offer the opportunity to create materials precisely to influence cell
activity and tissue repair. Smart materials are an emerging field in materials science that change their
properties in response to certain signals, such as pH, temperature, light, magnetism, and enzymes. To
improve tissue regeneration, smart materials are synthesized by modifying the scaffolds' physicochemical
and biological features in response to external stimuli. This article summarized the most recent advances
in smart materials, the several categories of smart materials, and their applications, and also explains the
definition of smart materials.
