Abstract:

In this paper, the run up of waves on the breakwater and the effect of the filter layer and the slope of the breakwater on it are investigated. For this purpose, a hydraulic model of three breakwater sections with a geotextile tube core and a scale of ۱/۱۵ has been used. A breakwater was used as a control sample, a filter layer was added to one breakwater and the cross section slope was changed in the other breakwater. The waves were generated both regularly with different frequencies and irregularly by a flap type wave generator in a laboratory flume. The results are based on changes in the run up dimensionless parameter (Ru / H) to the failure similarity parameter. In general, the removal of the filter layer increases the slope of the run up diagram relative to the failure similarity parameter, which is due to the reduction of the permeability of the breakwater. Reducing the cross-sectional slope has reduced the run up dimensionless parameter in regular waves to approximately ۳۵% -۴۰% and vice versa has increased the run up dimensionless parameter in irregular waves to approximately ۱۵% -۲۰%. The increase in the run up of irregular waves, despite the decrease in cross-sectional slope, is due to the resonance of the reflected waves and the phenomenon of turbolance in these waves in the breakwater claw.
