Investigating Indicators of Sustainable UrbanTransportation Systems To Improve the Quality ofUrban Environments

The urban transport sector is considered one of the most important areas of a sustainable city to the extent that without paying attention to it, it is practically impossible to achieve sustainability goals in a city. Transportation is actually a central issue and also one of the serious problems of our life that we are facing. In transportation planning, it is tried to be more compatible with sustainable development indicators. This adaptation takes place when it causes less damage to the environment and nature. Sustainable transportation is related to three sectors, which include economic, social, and environmental issues, and actually seeks to reach and create a balance between these three sectors. Also, due to the fact that the old fabric of the neighborhoods is facing many physical, economic and social problems, therefore, ease of physical and visual access can improve the level of environmental quality indicators. The method of this research is descriptive-analytical and the method of collecting information is based on the library and documentary method. After examining the concepts of urban environment quality indicators, it has been investigated and the degree of correlation between the indicators has been determined. In the following, solutions to achieve sustainable transportation are provided, as well as the actions that have been taken in other countries. The findings of the research show that sustainable transportation indicators can improve the quality of the urban environment.
