Datura stramonium is an annual medicinal plant which belongs to the Solanaceae family. There are some evidences in Iranian traditional medicine about the anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antidiarrheals, larvicidal, pesticidal toxicity, antifungal, and anticonvulsant properties of D. stramonium. In the current study, the collected seeds from Ardabil were planted in grow bags and placed for three months in a greenhouse in the College of Agriculture, Tarbiat Modares University, Tehran; average air temperature was ۲۵ C. Air-dried of areal part was sampled and its essential oil (EO) was isolated by hydrodistillation for ۳ h in a Clevenger apparatus. EOs content and the composition were examined with gas chromatography techniques. The EO yield of D. stramonium was ۰.۰۳% (v/w). Its major compounds were Camphor (۲۹.۹%), Selin-۱۱-en-۴alpha-ol (۱۳.۰%), and Borneol (۱۰.۴%). Other important components identified in the essential oil were dihydrocitronellol, n-dodecane, isobornyl acetate, germacrene D, and n-tetradecane. In general, the areal parts essential oils of D. stramonium showed oxygenated monoterpenes.
