Ever increasing energy consumption, rising public awareness for environmental protection and higher prices of fossil fuels have motivated many to look for alternative/renewable energy sources. Fossil fuel resources are limited and are expected to end early in the next century. In this situation small-scale power generation systems such as wind turbines, solar cells, micro-turbines and fuel cells can play an important role in meeting consumer demands for greener _energy. In this article firstly, different types of fuel cell technology is described, secondly the prospect of fuel cell in the word is discussed. Finally, the long term program of fuel cell in Iran will be considered.
