Abstract:
Different amounts of graphite was added to the catalyst layer of a PEM fuel cell in order to study the cell performance through changing in surface area of gas diffusion layer. The electrodes that included graphite were directly examined in a three electrodes system and electrochemical methods such as cyclic voltammetery, linear sweep voltammetery, chornoamprometery and impedance analysis (zahner) used to investigate the actual effect of graphite as an additive .It was found that addition of 1.7, 1.8 and 2% wt graphite in to the catalyst layer enhance the performance of electrodes in low current density region. An electrode with 1.7%wt graphite showed the best cell performance.
