Abstract:

friction stir welding FSW is a relatively new solid state joining technoloty that has significant benefits compared to the fusion processes its main benefit is its ability to joint successfully some metallic alloys which are difficult to weld by traditional fusion welding processes other advantages are low shrinkage and residual distortion excellent mechanical proprties as well as low production of fumes the consideration of the heat transfer process is one of the most important tools to sutdy the FSW process a good prediction of the temperature distributions within the workpiece can be helpful in evaluating the weld quality in the presented paper a sequentially three-dimensional thermomechanical wimulation is conducted for modeling of friction stir welding process the onjective is to study the variation of transient temperature and residual thermal stress in a friction stir welded plate of A1 6061 -T6.
