API ۶۵۰, Welded Tanks for Oil Storage, is a standard developed and published by the American PetroleumInstitute (API) that establishes minimum requirements for the design, fabrication, erection, and inspection ofwelded storage tanks. This standard only applies to tanks with uniformly supported bottoms and to tanks in nonrefrigeratedservice that have a maximum design temperature of ۹۳ degrees Celsius (۲۰۰ degrees Fahrenheit) orless. This standard was originally published in ۱۹۷۳, with the most recent ۱۳th Edition being released in March of۲۰۲۰. API ۶۵۰ is the standard governing welded tanks for oil storage. It dictates tank design, fabrication, welding,inspection, and erection requirements. API ۶۵۰ is widely used for tanks that are designed to internal pressures of۲.۵ PSI or less and store products such as crude oil, gasoline, chemicals and produced water. In this paper, acomprehensive review and application of the welding part of API-۶۵۰ have been presented with detailed nonnumerical study. The scope of the paper is to investigate the welding design principles of steel liquid storage tankswith API-۶۵۰ specification. The aim of the paper is to introduce the API-۶۵۰ standard which is used for analysis ofthese structures. To achieve these goals summary of API-۶۵۰ is presented and a non-numerical example wasfollowed.
