In this study, the effect of different molar ratios of primary powders and arc melting setting time on the synthesis of Ti۳SiC۲ powder has been investigated. For this purpose, Silicon Carbide (SiC), Titanium (Ti), graphite (C) and aluminum (Al) powders with molar ratios of ۳Ti:۱.۲SiC:۰.۸C, ۳Ti:۱.۲SiC: ۰.۸C:۰.۱Al and ۳Ti:۱.۲CiC:۰.۸C:۰.۳Al were mixed by a planetary mill under an argon atmosphere for ۵h. The resulting mixture was formed with a press and subjected to arc melting at ۱, ۳, ۵, and ۱۰s. In samples containing Al additive, the purity of Ti۳SiC۲ increases with increasing arc melting setting time up to ۵s, and the purity decreases with increasing the arc time. The best result was obtained in the sample ۳Ti:۱.۲SiC:۰.۸C:۰.۱Al containing ۸۳.۶ wt% of Ti۳SiC۲, which was obtained during the ۵s arc melting.
