Abstract:

In this paper a Lyapunov based nonlinear adaptivecontroller is adopted in order to implement maximum powerpoint tracking (MPPT) algorithm for permanent magnetsynchronous generator (PMSG) based wind turbines. Thisapproach is based on newly developed adaptive backsteppingcontroller which gains a great attention in nonlinear controlsystems, due to its capability to derive the control law and astable Lyapunov function, step by step. At first, Input-outputfeedback linearization control law is introduced. Although thismethod provides a simple and fast tracking, it doesn’t seem tobe effective in wind energy conversion systems with largeamount of uncertainties because it is based on exactcancelation of nonlinear terms. The adaptive backsteppingcontrol system is then designed in presence of resistoruncertainty as well as mechanical torque disturbance, which isthe most concerned uncertainty in wind turbines. Simulationresults validate performance of proposed adaptivebackstepping control in maximum power extraction from windturbine.
