Site- and Culture- Specific Virtual Environment in AnitaDesai’s Fasting, Feasting: An Econarratological Reading

The present paper aims to read Anita Desai’s Fasting, Feasting (۱۹۹۹) through the lens of Erin James’econarratological approach. More specifically, this research focuses on contextual and cognitivenarratologies to mirror real-world cultural context of the novel. Against this background, by applying the“immersive power” of the novel’s storyworld and “focalization technique”, readers experience virtualenvironment from the perspective of the main characters. Thus interpreters experience the novel’s worldaccording to “alternative environmental imagination” informed by local experiences of space, predictedon addressing the loss of indigenous habitats and cultures.
