Background: Adiponectin and CTRP-۹ are adipose tissue secreted adipokines mediating various tissue functions.Objectives: The present study aimed to investigate the effect of eight weeks aerobic training and Omega۳ ingestion on the levels of CTRP-۹ and adiponectin in women living with overweight and obesity.Methods: Forty women age ranging ۲۰-۳۵ years old (average age of ۲۷.۲۹±۳.۲۷ years old, average body mass index (BMI): ۲۹.۶±۱.۹۳ kg.m۲) participated in the present study voluntarily. Participants randomly assigned into four groups (۱۰ persons in each group) including placebo, Omega۳, training and training+Omega۳ groups. The aerobic training program included eight weeks period (three sessions per week), and the Omega۳ and Omega۳+training groups consumed ۲,۰۰۰ mg of Omega۳ supplements daily. Blood samples were collected pre and post intervention (۴۸ hours after the last training session or Omega۳ consumption), and adiponectin, CTRP-۹ and insulin levels were measured by ELISA method. Data analysis was performed using analysis of covariance and Bonferroni post hoc test.Results: Significant decrease of CTRP-۹ levels and insulin resistance, as well as a significant increase in adiponectin levels in the training and training+Omega۳ groups compared to placebo and Omega۳ groups were observed (p<۰.۰۵).Conclusion: Based on our findings, it seems that positive effects of aerobic training alone or combined with Omega۳ supplementation are partially exerted by increased and decreased adiponectin and CTRP-۹ levels respectively, and Omega۳ supplementation can increase the effectiveness of aerobic training in modulating CTRP-۹ and adiponectin levels.
