Abstract:
This paper aims to investigate seismic design and optimization of moment-resisting steel structures basedon life cycle cost. Three types of moment resisting steel structures with four, seven and ten-story weremodeled in accordance with the requirements of Iran seismic design code, and in each case, ۱۴ models weredesigned with different base shears. The direct and indirect seismic costs of structures were calculated, andthen, considering the life cycle cost as the objective function, the optimization process was performed inorder to design steel structures with the minimum cost. Indirect costs were calculated regarding theeconomic conditions of Iran and for the case of Tehran in ۲۰۱۶. The results showed that a model with abase shear more than what defined in the code can increase the safety of the structure and reduce its lifecycle cost. The results also showed that strengthening the structural sections and increasing the steel weightby about ۲۱% resulted in a reduction at about ۱۶% in the life cycle cost.
