Abstract:
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic autoimmune and neuro-inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS). Its primary cause is non-traumatic neurological disability in young adults, often accompanied by progressive neurological deterioration over time. In search of the importance of finding an efficient and safe therapeutic method, the author examines several cell-based therapies, including hematopoietic stem cells (HSC), mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), and neural progenitor cells (NPC). The study seeks to find the latest advances in the treatment of MS using new treatment methods. In this article, the studies conducted on stem cells and their use in possible treatment and improvement of the conditions of MS patients in the last three years have been reviewed. Studies have shown that NPC is safe and tolerable in the treatment of PMS, and MSC has shown significant improvement in animal models and reduction of symptoms in clinical trials. Adult HSCT may have a potential role in the treatment of progressive forms of MS but is associated with higher short-term risks compared to other treatments. Consequently, despite the promising nature of these treatments, most of the research conducted is still in the early stages of clinical trials or on animal models, and more studies are needed, especially on the safety, efficacy, materials, methods, and long-term effects of these treatments must be done.
