Abstract:
High value bio-products such as protein, polysaccharide and lipid extracted from microalge biomass have known as promising alternative for the conventional natural sources. In this research, non-thermal atmospheric plasma (NTAP) as an advance oxidation processes (AOPs) was applied for high value bio-products extraction from microalge biomass. The effect of different applied voltages on microalge cells disruption was investigated to determine the optimal conditions. In addition, CLSM microscopic images were employed to monitor bio-product distribution in the culture medium. According to the results, NTAP could successfully disrupt microalge cells at ۱۶ kV. However, it was observed that implementation of NTAP with applied voltage over ۱۲ kV had negative effect on high value product extraction. The maximum concentrations of ۴۰.۷, ۲۴.۱ and ۳۶.۲ mg/L of protein, polysaccharide and lipid were achieved at ۱۲ kV voltage discharge, respectively. The results of present work revealed that the utilization of NTAP can be considered as a promising approach for valuable bio-products extraction from microalgae.
