Phosphorus pentoxide used on alumina (P۲O۵/Al۲O۳) as an inexpensive, eco-friendly andnon-toxic acid catalyst for the one-pot synthesis of ۱,۸-dioxo-octahydroxanthenes via multicomponentreactions under solvent-free conditions. The present approach offers severaladvantages such as short reaction times, high yields, easy purification, recovery andreusability of the catalyst.
