Abstract:
In addition to the organizational structure, a company engaged in manufacturing must be concerned with its physical facilities. Operating efficiency of a manufacturing company is significantly influenced by the plant layout. Every organization encounters a layout or relayout problem from time to time. This is true for warehouses, distribution centers, department stores, and hospitals as well as manufacturing installations. Plant layout is necessary every time future building requirements are planned. This project is carried out at an electronic industry, to improve the company’s plant layout for better manufacturing operation. This project is focused on the Surface Mounting Technology (SMT) Section and
Backend Section (PM Line). The purpose is to change the batch production type to flow line production type by combining the SMT and Backend Section. One sample line is suggested for implementation. Time study, line balancing and line improvement is carried out. Simulation modeling is used to validate the suggestion. Work-In-Progress, total production line headcount, material movement and manufacturing run time are minimized. As a result, delivery time is improved and the company becomes more committed to customer requirement.
