Abstract:

This Paper attempts to provide an understanding of Robert Frost's poetry under the light of Lacanian psychoanalysis. While Frost's poetry includes various themes and atmospheres, the current study focuses on the aspects that shows his tendency to hide and seek shelter from his true self. The findings will show that the worlds of imaginary and Symbolic not only determine the basic foundation of the speaker's view of himself, but also they combine and work together by the presence of the father and affect the future decisions. The poems "Bound and free" and " Happiness Makes up in Height for What It Lack in Length" manifest the idea of this transition between these two phases to epitomize the speaker's description of his situation. Due to his description he describes a journey from the perfection into the world of insufficiency and shortage in hope for a better source of satisfaction
