Abstract:
This research paper aims to explore the ethical dimensions of postmodernity through a philosophical analysis of Kurt Vonnegut's novel Slaughterhouse-Five. By leveraging the philosophical insights of Emmanuel Levinas a highly influential thinker in the realm of ethics this study investigates the importance of recognizing the humanity of others and the ethical responsibility to alleviate suffering. Building upon Tyler Joseph Efird's perspective which focuses on uncovering Levinas's ethical position within the traditional literary naturalism paradigm this research applies this theoretical framework to the context of postmodernism. Through an examination of Slaughterhouse-Five we unveil the ethical potential within postmodernity itself shedding light on the dehumanizing effects of war and the ethical imperatives of the postmodern era.
