Abstract:

The purpose of this research is to study the effect of addition of titanium dioxide on bonding strength of coating in the CaO-P2O5-Na2O-TiO2 system on titanium substrate. To achieve this, different amount ofTiO2 (2, 3.5 and 5%mol) was added to initiate batch of the glass. After production of glass powder andslurry, titanium substrate was coated with dip coating method and then heat treated to cure the coat. Finally, samples were tested with shear stress test to determine the bonding strength of the coatings and debonded surface of coating were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and compare theirproperties. The cross section of the coatings was studied using (SEM) and elemental concentration analysis by EDS along the indicated. The findings show that the coating that includes 5%mol TiO2 has the best bonding strength in comparison with the other coatings. The bioactivity of the coated samples was studied by soaking them in simulated body fluid (SBF) in order to observe the growth of an apatite layer on their surface.
