Abstract:
In this research, aluminum alloy (A356) matrix composites, reinforced with 1.5 vol. % nano-2 3 Al O , were fabricated via stir casting method. To avoid agglomeration and segregation of nano- 2 3 Al O particles in molten aluminum, nano- 2 3 Al O particles were milled with aluminum and copper powders separately and incorporated into aluminum alloy as reinforcements. The effect of adding different mixed powders on mechanical properties of composites was investigated by hardness and tensile tests. Based on the results, the composites, reinforced with various mixed powders, showed different mechanicalproperties. These variations can be related to the influence of different metallic particles on uniform distribution of nano particles, grain refinement of aluminum matrix, and porosity content of different composites
