Abstract:

A unique global GHG emissions reduction projects database is available at www.worldenergy.org/ghg. This free, public and fully interactive database records expected annual reductions in GHG emissions from projects around the world. The database displays both actual and potential projects from industry, governments and other organisations. Some 1100 projects in 111 countries have been recorded, with total annual reduction exceeding 1.9 Gigatonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent. Projects include hydro, nuclear, wind, solar, biomass, geothermal, conservation, offsets, and energy efficiency. The information in the database can be used to identify projects suitable for financial support or emissions trading. The World Energy Council is the leading global multi-energy organisation with the mission to promote the sustainable supply and use of energy for the greatest benefit of all. WEC is comprised of 95 autonomous national Member Committees. It is UN-accredited, and does not directly represent any specific energy organisation. It operates from London and has four regional co-ordinators at key locations around the world to assist country Member Committees on energy matters of regional interest. WEC’s next triennial Congress will be in 2004 in Sydney, Australia.
