Abstract:

Formaldehyde is one of the most important antibacterial that used in detergents, care and cosmetic products. This compound has many advantages like Low price; strong preservative agnet. Formaldehyde is unfavorable for our health because it is known to be toxic for human being at high concentration; formaldehyde can cause irritation of eyes, nose, throat, and skin. A novel photoluminescence method for formaldehyde determination in detergent was developed; this method does not require anyenrichment procedures. Photoluminescence determination of formaldehyde in detergents and cosmetic product, which is based on thereaction of formaldehyde with 2-methyl acetoacetanilide and ammonia, is proposed. The proposed method shows a good linearity from 0.33 to 13.3x10(-7) m, and the limit of detection (LOD) of 1.3x10(-8)M (0.4ppb) is achievable. One of the main advantages in the proposed method is that the reaction can be carried out at room temperature without any heating system. The proposed method is very simple, rapid, less expensive, and highly sensitive. This method can be applied for determination of low concentration levels of formaldehyde in detergents samples, such as dish washing liquid, shampoo, and hand dishwashing.
