Eleven new species including Astragalus capax, A. demonstratus, A. expetitus, A. ferominatus, A. fortuitus, A. gypsocolus, A. lamprocarpus, A. leptynticus, A. pediculariformis, A. platyfoliolatus and A. pseudo­brunsianus are described from Iran belonging to the different sections. They are compared with their nearest relatives. The monotypic section Lamprocarpa is described as a new, the type of the section designated as A. lamprocarpus. Following species are reported for the first time from Iran: A. fuhsii; A. maximowiczii, A. zohrabii, A, hirticalyx, A. laguriformis, A. velenowskyi, A. woronowii, A. uranolimneus and A. acantherioceras. A. sclerocladus, A. schystocalys and A. pseudo­angustifolius formerly known as synonymous ,are designated as distinct species.
