Leaflets of ۳۱۳ specimens including ۲۴۰ simple haired Astragalus species in ۳۸ sections were taken from the herbarium specimens of Research Institute of Forests and Rangelands (TARI). They were analyzed quantitatively for toxic aliphatic nitro compounds. The catabolites of nitro compounds, ۳ - nitro - ۱ - propanol and ۳-­nitropropionic acid, are especially toxic to cattle and sheep. Nitro compounds were detected in ۴۲ of ۳۱۳ specimens or in ۳۱ species.
