The contamination status of heavy metals and metalloids in the surface water of the Shirood River (North of Iran) was assessed. metal concentrations in the surface water of the Shirood River were in the order of Co>Zn>As>Mn. Cr, Cd, Cu, Ni, Pb, and V were less than the detectable limit. The concentrations of metals were below the permissible level set by WHO, SON, WPCL, CIW, EPA, EC, TRV, and ISIRI for As, Co, Zn, and Mn. The findings suggest comprehensive continuous monitoring of metal concentrations from potable water, especially for semi-urban regions, to minimize health risks.
