خلاصه مقاله:
Introduction: The results regarding the relationship between smoking and blood and biochemical parametersare conflicting. The aim of the current study was to determine the correlation between smoking and somehematological and chemical biomarkers. Methods: the present cross-sectional study was conducted on the baseline phase of Bandare-Kong CohortStudy. Information was measured using a standard cohort questionnaire and fasting blood sampling. Theparticipants were divided into ۴ groups: non-smokers, smokers, waterpipe smokers, and simultaneous cigaretteand waterpipe users. The data was statistically analyzed using STATA ۱۴.۲ softwareResults: There was a significant negative relationship between waterpipe smoking and CHOL (p=۰.۰۰۳),HDLC (p=۰.۰۰۱) and LDL (p=۰.۰۲۶). Compared to non-smokers, cigarette smokers had lower levels of BUN(p=۰.۰۴۵) and HDLC (p=۰.۰۰۳) and higher TG (p=۰.۰۰۲). Cigarette smokers had higher WBC (p>۰.۰۰۱),RDWCV (p>۰.۰۰۱) and PcT (p=۰.۰۳۰) than nonsmokers. Waterpipe smokers had higher RBC (p>۰.۰۰۱), HB(p>۰.۰۰۱), HCT (p>۰.۰۰۱), RDWCV (p-value <۰.۰۰۱) and monocyte parameters (p=۰.۰۰۴). Compared to nonsmokers, both smokers had significantly higher WBC (p=۰.۰۱۵), RBC (p=۰.۰۴۱), granulocytes (p=۰.۰۱۸),RDWCV (p=۰.۰۰۶) and lower lymphocytes (p=۰.۰۴۲), CHOL (p>۰.۰۰۱) and LDL (p>۰.۰۰۱).Conclusion: The current study provides insights into the potential impact of smoking on various hematologicaland biochemical parameters. Smokers are suggested to have the potential to influence the development ofdifferent comorbidities by altering these parameters. The findings emphasize the strong recommendation tocease or reduce smoking in order to preserve public health.
