this study was carried out of determine the prevalence of intestinal parasites and effects of some demoghraphic factors on the central district of Kerman city.in this study ,۲۱۰۴ stool samples were randomly collected(۱۲۱۹ specimens from urban areas and ۸۸۵ from the surrounding villages of Kerman city) in ۱۹۹۱.the samples were examined by formalin-ether concentration method.the results showed that ,۴۷.۲۴% of specimens were infected with intestinal parasites,of which ۵.۳۷% were intestinal helminthes including:Hymenolepis nana ۳.۹%,Oxyuris vermicularis۱.۲%,Ascaris lumbricoides ۰.۲۳%,Strogyloidos stercoralis۰.۰۴%,and ۱۹.۷% of specimens were infected with pathogenic protozoa (giardia lamblia ۱۶.۲%,entamoeba histolytica ۳.۷%,dientamoeba fragilis ۰.۲۸%).the reminder of specimens were infected with non-pathogenic protozoa.the prevalence of intestinal parasites in the city was ۴۸.۸% and in surrounding villages,۵۳.۳% which showed a significant difference between the two areas (p<>۰.۰۱).no significant differences were observed between different sexes for infection with helmenthic and pathogenic protozoa.among helmenthic infections only hymenolepis nana and among protozoa infections,Giardia lamblia and enatmoeba histolytica showed a significant difference in prevalence rate prevalences among age groups of under and over ۲۰ years.the prevalence rate of oxyuris measured with scotch test procedure among the children of under ۱۳ years was ۲۴.۱%,though there was a significant difference between the subgroups of this age limit(p<۰.۰۱)
