Abstract:

The purpose of presenting this paper is optimal design of three-phase squirrel cage induction motors using evolutionary methods. For optimal design of such motors various criteria can be considered. Maximizing efficiency while keeping starting torque above the minimum required value are the criteria considered in this paper. The limitations in various construction stages are also considered as various constraints. It is noteworthy that the superiority of evolutionary optimization methods over classic methods is the lack of need for the linear model of the motor which in turn leads to increasing precision in calculations. Among the current evolutionary methods, genetic algorithm (GA), particle swarm optimization (PSO) and imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) are examined in this paper. The results show that the ICA better permits the design criteria.
