خلاصه مقاله:
This research explores the optimal Islamic geometric patterns (IGPs) for façade cladding systems in mixed-use mid-rise buildings in middle east area, where the climate demands high energy consumption for cooling. IGPs are a traditional Islamic architectural element that express the cultural and aesthetic values of Islamic countries. They comprise various polygons and stars that create intricate and harmonious designs. IGPs have served various purposes, such as aesthetics, sustainability, and structure. However, with the advancement of computer science and technology, new possibilities and challenges emerge for using IGPs in contemporary designs, especially in adaptive facades. Inspired by the Mashrabiya, which is a perforated screen that regulates light, heat, and ventilation, this research uses a parametric software language and a ۳D modelling program to analyze ten common IGPs. It evaluates the performance and efficiency of the IGPs in terms of energy consumption, daylighting, and quality views, using different orientations and seasons. It develops a repertoire of optimal IGPs that can be used in façade cladding systems that achieve significant reductions in energy consumption, while also providing sufficient daylighting and quality views. It also contributes to the knowledge of applying vernacular patterns to interactive façade systems and reinforces the connection to local culture.
