Abstract:

The pervasive impact of modern technology on spinal health, particularly in the form of 'Text neck', has necessitated the development of ergonomic interventions. This article introduces 'Ergo Alarm', a novel, wearable device designed to monitor and improve user posture in real-time. Aimed at providing a preventative and corrective solution to posture-related issues, the device leverages dual-component angular sensors situated at the ear and waist levels to accurately track spinal alignment. Our research employed a user-centered design methodology, relying on iterative feedback from potential users and healthcare professionals to refine the product's functionality and usability. The device, complemented by a user-friendly software application, alerts users to suboptimal posture through customizable notifications. Additionally, the application provides a suite of exercises specifically targeting 'Text neck' syndrome. The results of our study indicate that 'Ergo Alarm' successfully promotes healthier posture habits and has potential therapeutic benefits for the spine. The 'Ergo Alarm' has demonstrated significant promise in fostering ergonomic health in a technologically-driven society. This article details the development process, design considerations, and the comprehensive approach taken to ensure the device's effectiveness and user acceptance, highlighting its potential as a pioneering solution in the field of wearable health technology.
