Abstract:

Direct economic losses are which occur just during the earthquakes or immediately after them. Indirect losses are resulted from direct losses.Direct economic loss in water network defined as: Capital Losses,Water-Selling Loss, and Repair Loss. Indirect economical losses due to earthquake damage of water network just the lack of water selling due to decrease in request. Based on the scenario faults, the acceleration and velocities are determined in the GIS meshes. The vulnerability coefficient for pipe via accelerations and velocities are given. Water selling loss is divided in two categories: the expense of out flow discharge from tanks, the expense for emergency water supply. Since the out flow discharge from tanks by automated valves is negligible it is not inserted within our calculations. Water selling loss is calculated for emergency water supply only. For indirect economic losses, the population without water is calculated per mesh. The number of repair days, which is equally to the days without water, is also calculated. Total economic losses due to earthquake in pipe network of Tehran Water supply are equal to 16,000,000 US $. There was damage a lot less than Kobe pipe network because the earthquake intensity was less, the soil was stronger and the manpower and maintenance costs are low in Iran.
