Abstract:
Recognizing that the oceans play a major role in developing a sustainable global economy, the Blue Economy strategy offers an approach to economic development better suited to the circumstances, constraints, and challenges of various regions. Cutting-edge technologies and rising commodity prices are creating new opportunities for submarine exploitation, particularly in the High Seas, which require urgent attention for sound management of ocean resources through innovative high-tech applications to promote sustainable development trends. Currently, the seabed provides ۳۲% of the global supply of hydrocarbons, with exploration efforts expanding. Similarly, advancing technologies are opening new frontiers in the development of marine resources, including fisheries, bioprospecting, and offshore mining of seabed mineral resources. Additionally, the ocean holds vast potential for renewable energy production from wind, wave, tidal, thermal, and biomass sources. Ocean technology also presents opportunities for sustainable development and management of aquaculture, which is the fastest-growing food sector, currently providing ۴۷% of the fish for human consumption globally. The technological aspects of Blue Economy development are categorized and illustrated under Ocean Living Technology and Ocean Non-Living Technology.
