Behavior of Steel Moment Frame Structures Under Simultaneous Horizontal and Vertical Ground Motions

This paper is concerned with the effect of combined horizontal and vertical acceleration of earthquakes on the seismic behavior of steel moment frames. To achieve this objective, Seismic behavior has been verified by conduction nonlinear dynamic analysis under the vertical and horizontal earthquakes and horizontal component alone. The effects of vertical component of earthquake on the seismic behavior of 3 different model buildings are investigated. The results obtained indicate that the inclusion of the vertical component has little effect on the story drifts but greatly influence the axial forces in the columns but little effect on the shears and bending moment in the beam
