The COVID-۱۹ pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-۲ virus has had a significant impact on public health worldwide. The relationship between people's genetics and their susceptibility to the acute form of COVID-۱۹ has been considered. This study focuses on investigating the relationship between specific polymorphisms in the TMPRSS۲ gene with the severity, incidence and mortality of COVID-۱۹ in the Iranian population. TMPRSS۲ plays an important role in viral infection by facilitating the cleavage of viral glycoprotein S in the process of spike protein activation. Notably, a specific genetic variant of TMPRSS۲ called p.V۱۹۷M has a protective effect against COVID-۱۹. This variant is associated with decreased TMPRSS۲ protease activity and leads to milder clinical symptoms in individuals carrying this genetic variant. By examining the relationship between TMPRSS۲ polymorphisms and the outcomes of COVID-۱۹, this study seeks to identify genetic factors affecting disease severity and provide valuable insight for future research and therapeutic interventions.[۱,۲]
